It will be a fun summer in the Blue Water Zone.

Last year, the basketball courts in Lincoln Park, Knox Park, Gratiot Park and Palmer Park were rehabilitated. Over the next few weeks, each of these parks will receive new sports equipment.

“We got the grant to redo the basketball courts last year and we had a lot of people coming to the recreation department to get balls,” said Port Huron recreation coordinator Whitney Currah. . “So we partnered up with the Youth Advisory Council to get a grant where we have ball bins and we’re going to bring things into the park.

The City of Port Huron resurfaced the Gratiot Park basketball court and installed new hoops. A new court and hoops have also been installed at Knox Field.

“We want to have enough balls to have enough for the children in the community. We are going to put basketballs, soccer balls, soccer balls and frisbees to start and we wish we could have enough things for them. children of the community. “

After the progress of the past years, the new project is expected to serve as a further improvement to the parks.

Bale bins will start appearing in the coming weeks in time for summer. The Port Huron Recreation Department also accepts donations of new or lightly used balls to help keep the bins full.

“We had great reviews last year after redoing four parks,” said Currah. “A lot of people use them and we are happy that we can now provide a better way for them to have fun in these parks.”
