Donate used sports equipment, help children of military families

UNDATED – If you have active kids at home, you probably have sports equipment lying around in your garage or basement that they’ve outgrown. All this week, you can donate this gear and get a cheap breakfast at the same time.

The non-profit association league of united heroes has partnered with Perkins Family Restaurants until this Sunday. Drop off your donations at any of their restaurants and get a coupon for a “Magnificent 7” breakfast for $1.99.

United Heroes League Spokesperson Ben Matson says the organization has expanded over the years beyond the sport of hockey.

We started as Defending The Blue Line and it was hockey specific. This has now expanded into over 10 sports.

Mattson says they will put this equipment to good use across the country.

We encourage residents of the Seven Counties metropolitan area to drive and kit out locally for gear, be able to watch and browse, and take whatever they need from what we have. If they are outside of that – and again, we ship to all 50 states – we do so through the website.

United Heroes League started in Hastings, but they now support military families across the country. They provide free sports equipment, free sports camps, free association dues through grants, and free tickets to sporting events to children of military families.

Perkins restaurants in St. Cloud, Waite Park, Sartell and Buffalo are all included in this week’s gear drive.
