Elmendorf officer, K-9 competing for training equipment money

ELMENDORF, Texas – Elmendorf Policeman Anthony Vain and his K-9, Rocko, are competing to win up to $ 5,000 in training materials.

  • Participate in a national competition
  • The price is $ 5,000
  • Vote for Rocko and Vain here

Aftermath Services is running a national competition and the two officers have been selected as finalists.

“It’s a rare breed for work,” Vain said.

The energetic dog is not your average police puppy. Rocko is a red nosed pit bull adopted from Indiana.

“Pit bulls have a bad reputation and we are showing that it depends on the training and the love they get, they can be as successful as any other breed,” said Vain.

Rocko has been sniffing drugs and fighting crime with the department since 2016. The duo are the first K-9 unit with the department. The department hopes to expand and the cash prize would help pay for the training equipment.

“We also want to give him a little training with kennels, and things like that to expand our program in the future as the city grows,” Vain said.

From leashes to toys, much of the unit’s equipment is now coming out of this officer’s pocket.

“It would mean everything, not just to me, the dog and the city,” Vain said. “But, it comes down to training and equipment to serve in the community.”
