The National Office of Disaster Management (NDMO) received a donation of Live and Learn multimedia and training equipment with high specifications to help the office prepare for and respond to natural disasters.
The equipment was presented to NDMO Director Ms Vasiti Soko by Program Director-Pacific, Fiji Humanitarian Coordinator for Live and Learn Ms Doris Susau.
“This is a crucial time and this Live and Learn support will allow our agents to create more quality content and increase awareness of preparedness and response,” said NDMO Director Vasiti Soko.
“This is a huge boost to our media unit which will allow us to tell stories about the impact of our preparedness and awareness programs on disaster risk reduction across the country,” added the director. .
Soko thanked Live and Learn and the Australian government for its continued support in the areas of capacity building and national partners to effectively understand and address the consequences and responses to climate-related risks.
“On behalf of the local partners of the Australian Humanitarian Partnership (AHP), we wish to recognize the partnership we have with the Fijian government and in particular the NDMO,” said Ms. Susau.
“To ensure that our communities and government institutions are prepared for disasters, one of the key areas is the training of members of the division and district emergency operations centers, as well as capturing the successes of the recipient of this training. “, added Ms. Susau.
The total cost of media equipment is $ 21,000 and with approximately $ 6,000 for training equipment and $ 6,000 for personal protective equipment for the COVID-19 response.
