Market vendors will benefit from more than 10,000 personal protective equipment donated by UN Women
Hundreds of vendors in the market will benefit from more than 10,000 personal protective equipment such as disinfectants, hand gloves, masks and hand sanitizers donated by UN Women.
Local Government Minister Premila Kumar said UN Women were their close partners and again stepped in to help municipal markets by providing around 8,000 face masks, 2,000 antibacterial soaps and 200 hand sanitizers.
They also donated bleach, gloves, garbage bags and tape.
The first batch of supplies has already been distributed to Suva City Council, Lautoka City Council, Lami City Council, Nasinu City Council, Nausori City Council, Nadi City Council and Ba City Council. .
Kumar says city councils have developed appropriate policies to secure markets against COVID and the supplies will help implement those policies in the markets.
She says market workers and vendors are monitored daily as they continue to fight the deadly virus.
The Minister adds that the markets are absolutely essential for food security and remain open around Viti Levu, so they must continue to raise awareness to ensure that market vendors and the public are aware of the impacts of not following COVID protocols. Safe.
