VIDEO: Kaohsiung SWAT team receives new recruits and training gear

Proper training is essential for success in any job. But when your job is to save lives and confront dangerous people with life-threatening weapons, thorough training goes from important to essential.

Members of Kaohsiung City’s Special Weapons and Tactics, or SWAT, team train in full combat gear. With constant training, subduing criminals and rescuing hostages becomes second nature to them.

For the past three months, new team members have been training with newly purchased training iron gates. They learn precise maneuvers and what tools are needed to overcome obstacles in their path.

Unit commander Cheng Che-wei says any lock can be broken and any door opened with the right methods.

In addition to iron gates, other mobile equipment is used in training. All of this creates a sandbox environment where new hires can practice the art of entering premises in a variety of conditions.

The Kaohsiung SWAT team was deployed 27 times last year. His eleven new recruits work on their skills and tactics, which they will use to save lives in the future.
